Fiberoptic Bronchoscopy

Use of this equipment in detection of lung cancers, removal of foreign bodies, biopsy of a suspected tissue, recovery of cultures of infecting organisms & diagnosis of haemoptysis (blood in sputum) is very vital as  far  as  respiratory  illnesses are concerned.

Other facilities: Institution is having facilities of CT, HRCT, MRI etc and thus all guided biopsies from lung & pleura are being performed.

Pulmonary Function Laboratory
A state of art pulmonary function laboratory is already functioning

There is a well equipped and advanced PFT Lab with facilities of PFT, Pre Bronchodilator PFT, Pre and Post Bronchodilator Study, PFT with DLCO, Body Plethysmography, *PFT exercise testing and *Sleep Study

* Presently these services are not available in the department as the machines are under replacemet process but these will be started soon after replacement.

Following facilities are provided in the PFT Lab

• Totally computerized spirometer with automatic analysis systems for routine PFT and flow-volume loop measurements.
• Complete Body Plethysmography system (Body box) for measurement of various lung function parameters like compliance studies, Total lung capacity, Residual volumes etc.
• Computerized pulmonary function analysis including accurate measurement of pulmonary gas diffusion values i.e 'DLCO'. This can measure the defects if any in oxygen diffusion from lungs to blood in the body & detect even very early defects, which may be of immense value in early diagnosis & treatment of disease like interstitial membrane lung disease (Common with gas victims).
• *'Bicycle ergometer' & treadmill system with oxygen uptake measurements at various exercise levels.
• *Sleep Lab: To analyse  defects in breathing and oxygen uptake during sleep in many individuals, this laboratory system is a vital equipment.  A 28 channel most modern sleep lab system is already procured.  Cases have been analyzed already.
