Research Goals
The research and clinical faculty of the Department are working in multi-faceted directions with cross disciplinary approach on varied aspects of medical biotechnology including origin and progression of cancer, molecular regulation of apoptosis, cellular and humoral immune abnormalities, cytogenetic analysis of chromosomal aberrations, micronuclei assay and pathobiology of various diseased states like hepatitis and diabetes.

Research - Facilities & Services
The Department offers molecular diagnostic services using Real Time PCR (RT-PCR), Flow Cytometry (FACS), Spectral Bio-imaging platform, being one of the pioneer in Central part of India. Quantitative real time monitoring of viral load, qualitative detection of pathogens, relative expression of gene transcripts, immuno-phenotyping and molecular cytogenetics services are being provided.

Research - Teaching & Training
The Department has emerged as one of the "Centers of Excellence" for Wet-Lab training in area of Medical Biotechnology for both under graduate and post graduate students of Life Sciences and Pharmaceutical Sciences. More than thirty-six hundred students have benefited from these training courses till date. The department also offers summer training and post- graduate dissertation in different areas of medical biotechnology. A couple of outstanding candidates having national level fellowships are pursuing their doctoral programme (Ph.D.) in the Department.
