Surgical Gastroenterology
The Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery provides comprehensive care for disease of the gastrointestinal tract, Pancreas, Liver and the Billiary tree. The department has a 20 bedded ward includes a 6 beded High dependency Unit. We have twice OPD in a week on Tuesday and Thursday and three days Surgery on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and provide emergency services round the clock (24X7)
The theater complex has all modern facilities like intra operative endoscopes, image intensifier, CUSA, Radiofrequency ablator(RF), Choledochoscope and advanced Laparoscopy work station, and this makes this Department at par with any National center.
Besides providing current, efficient and evidence based patient care, the department has a strong academic aptitude.
Therapeutic
Hepatobiliary: Liver resection ( including major hepatectomies and segmental resections), management of bile injuries, laparoscopic cholecystectomies and CBD exploration.
Pancreatic Disease : For both benign and malignant pancreatic disease, whipples procedure, pancreaticojejunostomies, surgery for acute pancreatitis e.g. necrosectomies, cystogastrostomy etc.
Minimal Access Surgery: Over three thousand laparoscopic procedure performed till date including Lap Fundoplication, Lap. Hernia, Lap. CBD exploration, Lap colectomies.
Luminal Surgery: Managing complex Gi fistula, intestinal failure (short gut) and patients on home TPN, Ileoanal pouch for IBD, Total and limited colectomies for benign and malignant disease.
GI Oncosurgery : Major Luminal GI cancer surgery like Radical Gastrectomies, trans hiatal and trans thoracic oesophagectomies, hemicolectomies, APR, Radical Cholecystectomy etc.
